Instructions
Start by laying down a large piece of plastic underneath the gate. Try to use a piece that is large enough to cover both sides of the gate so that you don't have to move it when you switch sides. Place rocks or other heavy objects on top of the plastic to keep it from blowing around.
Tape off the sides of the house, fence or other structures that the gate is adjacent to using a wide painter's tape. This way you won't have to worry about painting anything but the gate itself.
Use a primer to cover any exposed pieces of wood or metal on your gate. You will also need to prime any parts that have never been painted, such as a replacement board on a wood fence. Choose a primer that is designed for outdoor use.
Apply the primer using a handheld paintbrush, which is more effective than a roller for spot painting. Hold the brush as you would a pencil for maximum maneuverability and minimum discomfort.
Allow the primer to dry completely before applying the paint.
Paint the gate using a paint roller to cover the most amount of space in the least amount of time. Use a roller extension pole to make your job easier. Don't forget to make sure that your paint is for outdoor use.
Touch up pieces of hardware or any other spots that need it with a handheld brush after you have finished painting the rest of the gate. Also use the handheld brush to get into all of the nooks and crannies that you couldn't reach with the roller.
When we have to paint the gate, we must take into account some things so the paint is firm for a long time and not have to suffer in the future seeing as puffed and peels. Most important is the preparation of the surface to be painted, although we take more time than we like, is the basis of the work we must do, and as any foundation, has to be good.
To start clean with a damp cloth with soap and water or bleach and water if the paint surface was covered entirely or partly and stain fungi. If fat, we can use turpentine. Allow to dry until it is suitable for sanding.
If the paint surface is badly damaged, passing a wire brush to remove loose parts. After sanding with fine sandpaper, leaving the smooth surface. In the case of putting dents in thin putty and then sanding.
Before painting, pass a brush to remove dust from the previous sanding. Never paint with hot plate, if given the strong sun, wait until cool, then yes, start painting. The parts that have rust, paint them with converter, let dry, then paint them with enamel.
Today converters have several colors, so that we can buy we want to choose the color and paint directly with converter. The disadvantage is that the converter is more expensive than the common nail.
You can use a brush or a foam roller (which for the flat is best, because they are not going to notice the strokes that would notice if we used a brush). The dilution of the painting depends on each brand, we will see if the paint is too thick because it runs the brush or roller.
Hands to give the surfaces depends on the coverage power of each mark, but never less than two hands.
